Tempo's Marina Mabrey ruled out with neck injury vs. Mercury
Marina Mabrey was ruled out for Toronto’s Saturday game against the visiting Phoenix Mercury after neck muscle spasms during warmups, the team announced at the end of the first quarter. Mabrey had been originally slated to start at the team’s first game at Scotiabank Arena, but was scratched late in favor of Kia Nurse and was not on the bench at tipoff. She later returned to the bench during the game, yet was still ruled out without appearing. The 29-year-old is coming off a WNBA record-tying 53-point performance against the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday. Selected by the Tempo in April’s expansion draft, Mabrey signed a two-year, $2.4-million contract. In 18 games, she averages 21.2 points with 3.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists, shooting 45.9% from the field and 40.3% from three. The game marked her first absence of the season.
