Water Sports Foundation Shares Top Boating Tips for Enjoying Fourth of July Fireworks, Flotillas and Fun
Ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, the Water Sports Foundation is urging U.S. boaters to prepare for Independence Day celebrations tied to the nation’s 250th birthday, including fireworks and flotillas across waterways. In a June 21, 2026 release from Orlando, Florida, Jim Emmons, executive director, said boaters should review rules with everyone on board, wear properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets, and never exceed maximum capacity. He also advised against operating under the influence, and against launching fireworks or sparklers from boats. Emmons encouraged inspections before departure, asking the Coast Guard Auxiliary about free vessel safety checks, and carrying safety gear such as VHF radios, phones, and a registered EPIRB or PLB transponder. Operators are legally required to wear and engage the Emergency Cut-Off Switch.
