White House says it's not preparing to ban diesel exports

The White House denied a report that it was preparing a 90-day ban on diesel exports amid high U.S. gas prices. The denial came after Politico cited five people familiar with discussions and said the legal process for such a ban was still being worked out. In an unsigned statement to The Hill, the administration said, “This is not true,” and pointed instead to comments from Energy Secretary Chris Wright to The Wall Street Journal. Wright said the administration would not halt all diesel exports and would pursue a voluntary approach to bring prices down. The remarks followed statements from President Trump and others at the U.N. General Assembly, while diesel averaged $6.52 per gallon on Wednesday, according to AAA.
