North Norfolk District Council says work will begin next week on a £1.28m coastal defence project in Overstrand, designed to “buy time” as the village fights erosion. Contractor JN Bentley will set up its site compound on Sept. 7, with construction expected to start Sept. 14. Early works will focus on the western end of the sea wall, including sheet piling and concreting. The western zig-zag slope and the far western beach access at the end of the promenade will stay open, as will the access ramp at Clifton Way. Weekend access for the full sea wall is expected, while the eastern zig-zag slope and adjacent promenade sections will close during work. Beach huts won’t be accessible during the week but can be used on weekends.
