Alabama siblings, 16 and 10, killed in car crash that also left brother fighting for his life

Alonso Alvarado, 16, and his 10-year-old sister, Lia Alvarado, died in a car crash in Steele, Alabama, on Friday, according to Al.com. Alonso was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup when he came off the road and crashed into a tree. Their 18-year-old brother, Juan Alvarado, survived but was seriously injured and underwent surgery; the family member who organized a fundraiser said his condition is still unknown. The victims were enrolled in schools across the St. Clair County School district and had returned from summer break only a month earlier. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials confirmed that none of the three people inside the pickup were wearing seat belts.
