Amazon suspends use of 21 Air, cargo carrier whose plane careened off Miami runway
Amazon suspended its partnership with 21 Air after a cargo flight operated by the carrier careened off a Miami runway last week, killing five people. In a statement, Amazon said it paused operations with 21 Air, the operator of Flight 7598, after spending time supporting the investigation and reviewing circumstances surrounding the incident. The Boeing 767 arrived on Sept. 6, ran about 1,300 feet (396 meters) past the end of the runway, and hit a van carrying workers at a plane cleaning company. All five fatalities were in the van; five others were injured. Investigators with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board are reviewing ownership history, weather, maintenance records, and cockpit audio reportedly included automated terrain and descent warnings.
