BYD unveils its first ever car built for global markets and it's a low cost 'game-changing' PHEV with impressive range
BYD unveiled the Dolphin G, its first vehicle built for global markets, positioned mainly for regions outside China including Europe. The plug-in hybrid is presented as a strategic alternative rather than a fully electric car, aimed at the European B-segment with a 1.5-liter engine paired with a 195-horsepower electric motor. BYD says the combined range is about 1,000 kilometers (621 miles), designed to reduce range anxiety where public charging adoption has stalled. The company also frames this model as its most unified global approach to date, contrasting it with more regionally fragmented lineups such as the Seagull in parts of Africa and EMEA. The Dolphin G is expected to debut this year with an anticipated price around $25,000 to $30,000.
