Ford recalling more than 741,00 vehicles because of park system issue
Ford is recalling more than 741,000 vehicles in the U.S. because a transmission issue may damage the park system and increase the risk of a crash or injury, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The NHTSA report says the affected vehicles include certain Ford F-150, Lincoln Aviator, Ford Explorer, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Expedition models from model years 2018 to 2021. It states that affected vehicles may temporarily engage the transmission parking pawl while the vehicle is in motion when certain shifts are commanded, potentially damaging park system components. If damage occurs, the transmission park feature may not hold the vehicle properly if the parking brake is not applied. The NHTSA said Ford is aware of 24 allegations of property damage and nine alleged injuries, including two emotional-injury allegations, tied to the issue. Owners will be notified by mail to update the Powertrain Control Module software and have dealers inspect and replace damaged transmission components at no charge.
