IIHS Launches New Attack In War To Make Heavy-Duty Trucks And Cargo Vans Less Deadly - Jalopnik
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is expanding its safety testing to commercial vehicles, including cargo vans and heavy-duty pickups. After releasing earlier results in June that focused on safety features, the IIHS found that, among cargo vans, the 2025 Ram ProMaster 2500 and the electric 2025 Chevrolet BrightDrop 400 were the only models with effective driver seatbelt reminders. For trucks, the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD and the 2025 Ford F-350 passed the seatbelt reminder check, while the 2026 Ram 3500 did not. Now IIHS has published a new evaluation of crash-avoidance systems, saying cargo vans and heavy-duty pickups lag behind passenger vehicles in front-crash prevention, though some models still perform well in each test category.
