Pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by vehicle Friday

A pedestrian was seriously injured Friday when struck by a vehicle involved in a two-vehicle crash in Kansas City, Missouri. The incident unfolded around 4:28 p.m. at the intersection of 31st Street and Wabash Avenue, a busy urban crossroads. According to police, a red Acura TL was traveling west on 31st Street when a black Mercedes GT53 pulled from a private driveway onto the roadway. The Mercedes reportedly failed to yield to traffic, and the Acura struck it, sending the Mercedes into a spin before its rear end struck the pedestrian who was crossing Wabash Avenue nearby. The crash prompted responders to close the intersection temporarily as investigators worked.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, with doctors describing the injuries as life-threatening. The two drivers reported no injuries. The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department (KCPD) indicated the Mercedes failed to yield to traffic, and investigators are reviewing footage from nearby cameras and interviewing witnesses to determine fault and any potential charges. No additional injuries were reported and traffic in the vicinity was disrupted while responders cleared the scene.
