Reported carjacking at Dune Park Station believed to be the first
A reported carjacking at Dune Park Station on the South Shore Line is believed to be the first of its kind at that station, according to officials. Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District police chief Jessie Watts said a male teen is in custody, while three other teen boys are wanted for alleged involvement in a weekend carjacking affecting the Chesterton/Porter area. The incident began around 11 a.m. Saturday when an employee cleaning the station was approached by two teens; one pointed a gun and demanded the keys to a Ford Maverick pickup. The teens then fled westbound on U.S. 12, triggering a pursuit, and the driver later crashed near the U.S. 12 and Melton Road intersection in Gary, scattering on foot. One suspect was located inside a McDonald’s and arrested shortly afterward. No injuries were reported, and police are reviewing station video.
