Spain back on track as Yamal scores in win over Saudi Arabia
Spain put its World Cup campaign back on track with a 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia in Atlanta on Sunday. After arriving in the United States as pre-tournament favorites, Spain faced scrutiny following a 0-0 draw against Cape Verde. The European champions responded by scoring three times in the first 24 minutes to move to the top of Group H. Lamine Yamal, the 18-year-old Barcelona player who came on for the final 19 minutes against Cape Verde after injury, started his first World Cup match and opened the scoring. Mikel Oyarzabal added a rapid double, and an own goal by Hassan Al Tambakti made it 4-0, after which Ferran Torres was denied by an offside decision following a stoppage-time VAR review. Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente made four changes, including Alex Baena, Dani Olmo and Pedro Porro into the starting lineup.
