Tesla recalls nearly 3M vehicles in China over door handle safety risks

Tesla is recalling about 2.98 million China-made and imported EVs—Models 3, Y, X and S—over door-handle safety risks, according to China’s State Administration for Market Regulation. The recall is part of a broader China-led action involving more than 4 million vehicles across multiple brands, described by Chinese media as the largest recall this year. Regulators cited a risk that, in extreme cases such as severe collisions causing electrical system failures, hidden or flush door handles could hinder occupants from escaping quickly or prevent rescuers from accessing the car. Tesla will issue software updates; the company did not immediately comment. Xiaomi and Leapmotor are also recalling hundreds of thousands, and Geely and XPENG have additional recalls.
