Tesla/SpaceX Merger Could Create a Big Mess in China: TDS
Tesla reportedly considered selling off its business in China because a potential merger between Tesla and SpaceX could trigger regulatory problems, given SpaceX’s military contracts and the fact that one company is highly active in China. Tesla China and CEO Elon Musk dismissed the report. In other news, Rivian reported second-quarter revenue up 27% year over year, beating Wall Street estimates, and projected 70,000 deliveries by year-end (up from 65,000) on the back of the R2’s strong launch. After a Japan earthquake, manufacturing pauses affected Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Daihatsu, and a Honda motorcycle plant, with disruptions expected to last through the first week of August. Ford CEO Jim Farley also said Chinese makes may enter the U.S. in five to 10 years.
