Used Mercedes-AMG S65 Doesn't Make Sense. Here's Why You Should Buy One Anyway

A used Mercedes-AMG S65 may look like a questionable purchase at first glance, but the numbers behind depreciation can change the equation. The W222 sixth-generation S65 arrived in the U.S. with the 2015 model year, powered by a hand-built 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 rated at 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, sending power through a seven-speed automatic to the rear wheels. Mercedes quoted roughly a 4.1-second 0–60 mph time. New prices started around $222,000, but Kelley Blue Book values it at under $40,000 today. KBB fair purchase prices for around 50,000 miles range from $38,200 (2015) up to $102,000 (2020). The trade-off: it’s not likely to be cheap to own despite the bargain.
