Volvo removes EX40 after axing EX30, leaving its cheapest EV at nearly $60,000

Volvo will remove the EX40 from its U.S. and Canada lineups after the 2027 model year, following its earlier decision to drop the EX30. The change keeps the updated EX40 on sale in Europe only, and is expected to push Volvo’s cheapest EV option in the American market close to $60,000. Electrek reports the new EX60 starts at $59,795 including destination, with a slightly higher EPA-estimated range of 307 miles versus up to 296 miles for the 2026 EX40. The EX40 starts at $56,545, widening the entry-price gap. Volvo is also developing an EX50 crossover that could debut by the end of 2027 for under $50,000, with a trademark filing dated July 14, 2026.
