Woman Spent a Month Looking for Her Missing Dog -- Then Spotted Her Being Carried Through Mexico's World Cup Celebration
The World Cup celebration in Mexico unexpectedly led to the return of a lost dog, underscoring how soccer can unite communities beyond the stadium. Gorda, a six-year-old dog, was reported missing by his owner, Ale Garcia, in Lomas de Guadalupe in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. After spending a month lost, Garcia’s search appeared to end during Mexico’s 2026 FIFA World Cup moment: a 3-0 group-stage win over Czechia in Mexico City, achieved without conceding goals. That night, livestreams of street celebrations in Ciudad Victoria helped her brother spot Gorda being carried through the crowd. Garcia and her family rushed to the area and found the dog joining the festivities. After veterinary checkups, local reporters were told Gorda was in good health but slightly malnourished. No injuries were reported in the reunion.
