National Music Centre Names Steve Kane as Chair of NMC Board of Directors and Announces Board Updates

National Music Centre appoints a new chair and updates its board, signaling a strategic shift for Canada's music institution. On May 26, 2026, the Calgary-based NMC announced Steve Kane, a 35-year veteran of the Canadian music industry, would become Chair of the Board, succeeding Rob Braide who is retiring after 13 years of service. Kane previously led Warner Music Canada (2001-2021) and held senior posts at Universal/Island/Def Jam Canada and Polygram Records. He was inducted into the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame in 2015. The organization also welcomed Robert Frances, Patti-Anne Tarlton, and Ruth Spetz to the board.

Andrew Mosker, NMC's President and CEO, said the additions bring essential experience and networks for the next chapter as Studio Bell marks its 10th anniversary. He noted the new chair's and directors' track records in developing talent, culture, and philanthropy align with NMC's five focus areas—exhibitions and collections, artist development, performance and recording, education, and wellness. The board's refresh also includes Jennifer Buchanan becoming Vice-Chair, and thanks were extended to retiring members Karen Prentice and Rob Braide for their service. With a Montreal satellite location and continued growth, the Centre aims to amplify Canada's music story worldwide.
