Alfred Collins is behind. Kyle Shanahan still expects him to be ready for Week 1

Kyle Shanahan said Thursday night that Alfred Collins’ slow start in training camp, joint practices with the Los Angeles Chargers, and the preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders isn’t his fault. The San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle has been easing back from offseason shoulder surgery and, Shanahan noted, returned later than usual. Collins played with the team’s reserves in the third quarter of an 18-12 win, but Shanahan expects him to be ready by Week 1 after this weekend’s three days off and two practices before the team flies to Australia. Collins, 332 pounds, is competing to replace Kalia Davis and Jordan Elliott alongside Osa Odighizuwa.
