Dems flips yet another Senate seat in Trump country amid sweeping GOP upsets

Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson lost Iowa’s open U.S. Senate seat to Democrat Josh Turek, flipping the seat Democrats first won in 2008. The Fox News Decision Desk projects Turek’s win for the seat vacated by retiring Sen. Joni Ernst, marking a major GOP stumble in a state President Donald Trump won by more than 13 points in 2024. Turek defeated Hinson, who said she conceded and congratulated him while urging politics to be set aside. Turek campaigned on affordability, health care, wages, lower prescription costs, higher minimum wage, housing support, and restoring Medicaid funding.
