Dual radioligand therapy targets neuroendocrine bone metastases in pilot
A prospective pilot study in the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging reports a strategy to address neuroendocrine tumor bone metastases by combining two lutetium-177 radiopharmaceuticals in a single regimen. Researchers at the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University in Luzhou, China, used [177Lu]Lu-DOTATATE, a somatostatin-receptor-targeted agent, alongside [177Lu]Lu-DOTA-IBA, which uses ibandronic acid to seek bone sites of active turnover. The rationale is to deliver radiation both to tumor cells expressing somatostatin receptors and to the bone microenvironment where metastases remodel and damage skeletal tissue. The study enrolled 30 patients in a single-center, single-arm design and administered 95 treatment cycles across the cohort, with multi-layer response assessments.
