How Parents and Doctors Shape Whether Children With Obesity See Their Own
xCruzo Brief
A new BMC Pediatrics analysis of NHANES data suggests pediatric obesity outcomes hinge on a “narrow gate” between recognizing weight issues and changing eating habits: children’s own accurate perception of their body weight, reinforced by parents who see the situation clearly and by a physician who names it. Using logistic regression and dietary pattern analysis, researchers found older children, girls, those diagnosed by a physician, those with parents accurately perceiving weight, and those already intending weight loss were more likely to perceive their weight correctly.
