Pharma Bro Martin Shkreli Could Be in Big Trouble Again
xCruzo Brief
The Federal Trade Commission is asking a federal judge to hold Martin Shkreli—known as “Pharma Bro”—in contempt of court, alleging he has violated a lifetime trading and speech ban by publicly trading in pharmaceutical stocks and commenting on the industry. The FTC says Shkreli, who was convicted in 2017 on eight counts including securities fraud after Daraprim’s price was raised from $13.50 to $750, was later banned in 2022 from trading pharma stocks and broadcasting opinions about pharma company business or management. The agency alleges that since his release, he traded in stocks of at least 60 pharmaceutical companies and livestreamed guidance on trading and shorting stocks based on predicted clinical-trial failures.
