Ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a health warning tied to grill brushes that can shed metal bristles. More than one million grill brushes were recalled, including 1.7 million Cuisinart models, after safety regulators said small wire bristles can detach and stick to grills or food, creating an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery. The recalled brushes include metal wire bristle versions with handles made of black plastic, stainless steel, and wood, spanning several model numbers listed on packaging. CPSC said Conair, which owns Cuisinart, has received at least 54 reports of bristles detaching, including three instances in which consumers swallowed bristles and sought medical treatment. Consumers were told to stop using the brushes and contact Conair for a refund or credit, and the products were sold at retailers including Burlington, TJ Maxx and Ross.
