Kevin Kiley Loses Reelection After California Redistricting
xCruzo Brief
Republican-turned-independent Rep. Kevin Kiley is projected to lose reelection in California’s newly redrawn 6th Congressional District after redistricting shifted his political prospects. Kiley had become a leading critic of the nationwide remapping fight, pushing legislation in August 2025 to halt it and using a discharge petition in May to force a vote—efforts that stalled. In response to Texas’ move to gerrymander out five Democratic-held seats, California Democrats advanced Proposition 50, which passed in November 2025 with nearly two-thirds of the vote. Kiley switched registration to independent in March, though he largely backed the GOP majority. He will be succeeded by Democrat Richard Pan.
