Protesters target Collins' support of Kavanaugh on Dobbs anniversary
More than 100 supporters of abortion rights gathered outside U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ Portland office Wednesday to mark four years since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Activist Marie Follayttar said the 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision has continued to reshape perceptions of rights, even in Maine where abortion remains legal. After the rally, about 20 protesters entered One Canal Plaza seeking a statement from Collins’ staff about her current position. A staff member threatened to call police unless the group dispersed, citing a building policy limiting hallway occupancy to eight people. Collins’ press secretary Blake Kernan said the building was not designed for large crowds and disputed that police were called. The article also referenced Collins’ past backing of Kavanaugh and criticism from her Democratic challenger, Graham Platner.
