Retrospective cohort links core biopsy to rare breast blood cancers
xCruzo Brief
A Spanish retrospective cohort study of 24 patients found that hematologic cancers involving the breast were often diagnosed using image-guided core needle biopsy and, in most cases, managed without removing the breast. Conducted at University Hospital Reina Sofía in Córdoba for diagnoses from January 2008 to June 2023, the research included 23 women and one man with a mean diagnosis age of 60.3 years. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was the most frequent subtype, at eight cases (33.3%). The authors noted imaging usually could not reliably distinguish these malignancies from epithelial breast cancer, making accurate pathology and immunohistochemical lineage classification central.
