When I'm peering down the lens... the rest of the world vanishes. It's just me and the photo' -- research shows the mental health benefits of a daily photography habit
A growing body of research is being cited to support a daily photography habit as a mental-health tool, including reduced anxiety and improved well-being. British photo retailer MPB announced a partnership with mental-health charity Mind, pointing to a study in the peer-reviewed journal Health suggesting that taking a photo every day delivers measurable benefits for mental well-being. British photographer and broadcaster Chris Packham described using photography to address chronic or specific mental health issues, saying that focusing through the lens reduces outside worries. The article also notes that MPB cites a 2024 Fujifilm survey in which 80% of respondents reported that viewing old photos brought happiness and calm and helped reduce anxiety. MPB said it will donate £1 to Mind for every item bought or sold on its marketplace during August, targeting £50,000 per year for the charity.
