Cricket Australia has approved the sale of a 100% stake in the Melbourne Renegades, making the franchise the first in the Big Bash League (BBL) to enter private sale. The move raises questions about whether BBL teams could change names, colours and branding after the 2026–27 season, but Cricket Australia says there is no confirmation of rebranding. The 2026–27 BBL and WBBL seasons will run under existing identities while CA manages the Renegades in caretaker mode. CA expects new ownership for the 2027–28 seasons and says an owner could propose changes, though any changes would require approval—CA for the Renegades and, for future sales, likely state associations.
