Ava Susser-Stein Helps Students Find Their Jewish Home at GW Hillel

Ava Susser-Stein is using her Springboard Fellowship at GW Hillel to help Jewish students find community on campus, describing Hillel as the college-age equivalent of Jewish summer camp. A Washington, D.C., resident who began the two-year role in July, she coordinates social programming, student engagement, and GW Hillel’s website and social media, while also working on marketing. She planned GW Hillel’s Welcome Week, running six events—from Aug. 24 to 28—covering coffee and donuts, bagels, a shaved ice truck, a paint-and-sip, a barbecue, and Shabbat services and dinner. Susser-Stein said leadership opportunities at Hillel helped shape her path, including being president of first-year students as a freshman.
