Thomas Christiansen's future with Panama is up in the air
Thomas Christiansen’s future as Panama head coach remains uncertain after the team’s final World Cup match, when they face England in search of their first-ever point at the tournament. Panama enters Saturday’s game without realistic hopes of advancing, while also seeking to avenge the defeat they suffered against England in Russia 2018. At a pre-match press conference, Christiansen was asked about his continuity for the next World Cup cycle, but he left his plans open. He said he has one last match in this World Cup and that as of June 30, discussions will begin. Despite Panama’s early elimination, Christiansen expressed pride in the group’s effort, describing the squad as identifiable in its commitment, courage and personality. He added that the team approached the tournament with attitude strong enough to face any opponent. The coach’s comments place the “Thomas Christiansen project” and Panama’s post-tournament direction at center stage.
