Frank Busch dies at 75: What happened to former USA swimming coach?

Frank Busch, a longtime University of Arizona swimming coach and former USA Swimming director for the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, died at Phoenix airport on September 27, 2026. He was 75. The report says Busch suffered a heart attack while returning from an angling trip in Idaho and collapsed at the airport. His sister, Dorothy Rackstraw, confirmed the death in a Facebook post. Busch coached Arizona’s men’s and women’s teams for 22 years, from 1989 to 2011, and oversaw a historic 2008 NCAA double title. He won six NCAA Coach of the Year awards and was inducted into the American Swimming Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008.
