New exhibit housing Endeavour Space Shuttle set to open at California Science Center in November
A new permanent exhibit for the Space Shuttle Endeavour at the California Science Center is scheduled to open in November, with the museum announcing its location inside the newly built Samuel Oschin Shuttle Gallery. The gallery is set to open on Nov. 13 and will house the shuttle in a 20-story launch position, described as the only place in the world where visitors can see a shuttle displayed this way. The exhibit is part of a broader $450 million Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center expansion, the third and final phase of the center’s master plan. The Science Center says the expansion nearly doubles exhibit space, includes a collection of 100 artifacts, and adds interactive science and engineering experiences. Endeavour was retired in 2012 after STS-134 and arrived in Los Angeles by NASA-modified Boeing 747 before being towed to the center.
