Red Sox talking Adley Rutschman trade with Orioles
With the MLB trade deadline approaching at 6 p.m. ET on Monday, the Boston Red Sox are reportedly discussing a deal to acquire catcher Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles. Multiple reports say the move would be a major step in Craig Breslow’s effort to boost Boston’s offense for the stretch run. The Red Sox’s path could be complicated because Rutschman is on the injured list with lingering left wrist inflammation. If completed, the trade would add a high-upside bat behind the plate; Boston’s current catchers have posted the sixth-worst OPS in MLB at .615 and the fewest home runs with four. Rutschman, 28, earned his second All-Star selection this season with .251 average, eight homers and .764 OPS in 67 games, after a mid-July injury setback.
