You'd Put $10,000 in Palantir at Its IPO, Here's What You'd Have Now -- Even After a 37% Drop
Palantir’s IPO story is revisited as the stock continues to rebound from an AI-driven sell-off. The company, Palantir Technologies, began trading on Sept. 30, 2020, via a direct listing at an opening trade of $10 per share, above the NYSE’s $7.25 reference price. A $10,000 investment at that first trade purchased 1,000 shares, valued at roughly $132,000 today as the stock trades near $132. That performance reflects about a 37% drop from the 52-week high of $207.52, yet still implies a compound annual growth rate near 56% over just under six years. The article attributes much of the return to fundamentals: Palantir reported $1.63 billion in Q1 2026 revenue, up 85% year over year. U.S. revenue rose 104% to $1.28 billion, with U.S. commercial revenue up 133%, and net income under GAAP was $871 million, or $0.34 per share. Management lifted 2026 revenue guidance to about $7.65 billion and expects GAAP profitability each quarter. The valuation noted is demanding, with shares trading at roughly 148 times earnings on the current year’s basis.
