London Luton Airport, despite the name, is located in Bedfordshire near the town of Luton, north of London. Opened in 1938 as a municipal aerodrome, it served as a Royal Air Force base during World War II before returning to commercial operations. Today it is a major short-haul and low-cost hub with more than 130 destinations across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. The airport handled over 17.5 million passengers in 2025 and is set to expand, with government-approved plans in 2025 to raise annual capacity from 19 million to 32 million. To get there, travelers can take a train from St Pancras to Luton Airport Parkway, then the Luton DART, an automated 2.3km link opened in 2023.
