Teen boy who clung to overturned boat for days rescued in Bering Sea

A teenage boy was rescued after clinging to a capsized fishing vessel in the Bering Sea for days, while his older brother and cousin drowned. The group was last seen leaving Alaska’s St Lawrence Island on Friday aboard an 18-foot fishing boat, with plans to return early Sunday, but they did not. Search efforts began Sunday evening, and an aircrew found the lone survivor on top of the overturned vessel Monday afternoon. Rescuers deployed a raft and survival gear, with help coordinated from the nearby good Samaritan vessel Northwest Explorer. The boy had symptoms of hypothermia after hours in the icy water. Two bodies were recovered, and the Coast Guard thanked multiple responders and partners for saving him.
