Year-old survives after fishing boat capsizes off Alaskan island, killing his brother and cousin

A teenager survived for days after a fishing boat capsized off Alaska’s St. Lawrence Island, leaving his brother and cousin dead, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The boy was found on the overturned vessel about 4 miles east of the island and was rescued Monday, the Coast Guard said. The incident occurred after authorities were notified of the overdue boat on Sunday night but searches were delayed until the next morning due to weather and poor visibility. The crew had last been seen Friday departing Savoonga. The teen’s brother Sidney had been trying to retrieve a life jacket when lines tangled and the boat flipped. Another crew member panicked and jumped ship, drowning after swimming only a few feet.
