THIS DAY IN OUR HISTORY: Captain wet pants, the court told highlights a Taiwanese fishing skipper’s claim during a PNG-related legal case. Hsu Jin Te, captain of the Hwai Tsai No. 101, told the Boroko District Court on Friday that when four armed Australian soldiers boarded his vessel on May 11, he was so frightened he wet his pants in the wheelhouse. He said one soldier pointed a gun at him, while court testimony from Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol witness Greg Bowness described the skipper as normal and calm when first boarded on May 10 in the Torres Strait Protected Zone. Jin Te faces charges of illegal fishing inside the zone and related offenses including fishing without a licence and using the boat to process fish taken by the same vessel. The vessel is owned by Inter Sea Fish Pty Ltd of Port Moresby, and Prosecutor Aquila Samson continued cross-examination when the court resumed.
