Lucid's $50,000 Tesla Model Y Rival Is Starting To Take Shape
Lucid’s Cosmos is taking shape as a smaller, more affordable SUV designed to challenge the Model Y. Patent drawings filed with the EUIPO under Atieva Inc. first surfaced, spotted June 15, 2026, showing Cosmos from multiple angles. Lucid says the Cosmos will ride on a new Midsize platform that will underpin three models—Cosmos SUV, Earth SUV, and an undisclosed fourth vehicle—using Atlas drive units that are smaller, lighter, and cheaper to build. Design sketches reveal a recognizable Lucid look with a slim light bar across the nose, a coupe-like roofline, flush door handles, and a full-width taillight at the rear. Interior images show a center console, a wide display, and a minimalist dashboard that aligns with Lucid’s current styling. Spy shots hint Cosmos will be about Model Y size, with single- and dual-motor versions, as Lucid pursues efficiency, interior space, and driving dynamics on a scalable new platform.
