Registrations Have Rebounded After Months Of Decline

EV registrations appear to rebound after months of decline, with Tesla leading the market. April 2026 saw 89,147 new EV registrations in the United States, a 9.8% year-over-year drop. Earlier months showed steeper declines, but the pace is stabilizing according to S&P Global Mobility. The rebound comes as the tax credit was reduced and EV costs remain high.

Tesla led with 45,800 registrations in April, up 13% from April 2025. Chevrolet posted 5,890 registrations, a 36% decline. Toyota’s 225% surge to 3,524 came as new EV models joined its lineup. Subaru rose 99% to 1,959 as shared platforms with Toyota expanded. Analysts say higher fuel prices are nudging buyers toward EVs even without subsidies.
