Vikings name Carson Wentz backup quarterback, J.J. McCarthy as QB No. 3 for Week 1
xCruzo Brief
The Minnesota Vikings have officially named Carson Wentz as the backup quarterback for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. Former first-round pick J.J. McCarthy, who started last year, will be the team’s No. 3 QB behind Wentz. Head coach Kevin O’Connell said the pecking order after starter Kyler Murray will be determined “week-to-week.” Murray was named starter last month following competition in training camp, after the team previously leaned on McCarthy. Murray, a two-time Pro Bowler and former No. 1 overall pick, was released by the Arizona Cardinals this offseason and replaced there by Jacoby Brissett.
