Green Muscles, IT Nutrients, And Biogas Solutions
Experts at a Planet Action event argued that the U.S. faces an impending energy crisis in part due to data centers, and proposed ways to make AI and “green” technologies work together. Ayse Coskun, chief scientist at Emerald AI, suggested treating data centers as “muscles of the grid,” using AI to shift or schedule workloads to better match renewable energy supply while respecting user performance agreements. Coskun described AI as a “conductor” orchestrating operations across data centers and utilities. Other speakers focused on the materials and waste side of decarbonization: Tomás Villalón Jr. called for sourcing rare elements from e-waste, and Emmanuel Kasseris discussed converting recoverable methane from organic waste into a liquid, carbon-negative fuel aimed at aviation and shipping.
