Sen. Chris Murphy discharged from hospital after stroke

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy said Friday he has been discharged from The Johns Hopkins Hospital after suffering a stroke last weekend. Murphy, 53, had been hospitalized there after experiencing numbness in his arm while at his son’s hockey game, according to statements from his team. He told reporters he suffered a small hemorrhagic stroke in the thalamus and will miss “the next several weeks” of Senate votes while continuing recovery. Dr. Jose Suarez, chief of neurosciences critical care at Johns Hopkins, said Murphy has shown “tremendous progress” and is expected to make a full recovery following rehabilitation. Murphy said he will spend the next weeks at a rehabilitation center.
