Total-body PET scan maps HER2 tracer in breast cancer and finds earlier
A dynamic total-body PET/CT study suggests patients with HER2-positive breast cancer may be able to start PET imaging earlier than the typical waiting period after injection. Researchers used the tracer [68Ga]Ga-HER2 Affibody and, in work published in EJNMMI Research, tracked real-time biodistribution, calculated radiation dose, and evaluated scan timing. Using reconstruction and timing protocol comparisons, the team identified 45 minutes post-injection as the earliest feasible imaging time for this patient group, with no significant differences in key measures when comparing 40–50 minutes versus 50–60 minutes (all P values above 0.05). The mean effective dose was reported as 2.90E-02 ± 2.77E-03 mSv/MBq. The study was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry under ChiCTR2400092565.
