European air traffic targeted by new threats after a week of hoaxes
European authorities reported new bomb threats against multiple flights on Friday, continuing a week of hoaxes that had already led to diversions. Eurocontrol said it was aware of threats targeting 14 flights on Thursday—about 0.05% of nearly 26,300 flights that day—and seven on Tuesday; the EU’s transport commissioner, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, said there were 11 more on Friday. Hungary’s defence minister said fighter jets escorted three passenger planes within an hour after threats, while France’s PM office reported four new threats involving aircraft flying over French territory. Several flights were inspected and landed safely; no suspicious items or explosives were found. Belgian officials plan to meet next week in Brussels to discuss measures.
