Taiwan plans to buy liquefied natural gas from Alaska pipeline project
xCruzo Brief
Taiwan plans to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from a U.S. project connected to Alaska’s pipeline scheme and could invest up to $4.4 billion, the island’s Ministry of Economic Affairs said Wednesday. The plan targets 6 million metric tons (6.6 million U.S. tons) annually after extraction, with earliest supply support expected in 2032 if the project proceeds as scheduled. CPC Corporation, Taiwan’s state-owned oil and gas firm, signed a March 2025 letter of intent, with negotiations and evaluation ongoing for more than a year. U.S. President Donald Trump highlighted the deal at an Alaska rally. The underlying pipeline runs 807 miles (1,300 kilometers).
