European air traffic is targeted by new threats after a week of hoaxes
Officials across Europe reported a fresh surge of bomb threats against multiple flights on Friday, following hoaxes earlier in the week that caused diversions. Two broadcasters also received security threats. No suspicious items were found and no injuries were reported, but the incidents raise concerns as Europe faces other disruptions, including attacks on supermarket refrigeration systems and drone incursions. Eurocontrol said threats targeted 14 flights on Thursday—only 0.05% of roughly 26,300 flights across the network—and seven on Tuesday. In Hungary, fighter jets escorted three passenger planes within an hour after threats. In France, the PM’s office said four new threats were made for flights over French territory. Several affected flights landed safely after inspections.
