Europe counters China with car model blitz | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
Europe used the Paris motor show on Monday to push back against rising Chinese competition, featuring new model launches and additional EU support as Chinese automakers increased their push into the region. The show began days after the European Union announced a deal to limit imports of Chinese hybrid vehicles to 350,000 a year, according to a European Commission official. Although details weren’t finalised, European manufacturers largely welcomed the move, even as some argued more help was needed. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa called it a “good milestone” but said Fiat maker also wants support for high energy costs from the Italian government and faster EU action on carbon emissions rules. Renault CEO Francois Provost said the surge of Chinese hybrids into the EU is “not sustainable,” while Changan president Zhao Fei said he was “not that concerned,” expecting the agreement to lead to “Made in Europe” local content handled through regional production. Around 20 Chinese brands, including BYD and Chery, are attending.
